It all started during mid of January, 2005. My dear friend and roomie introduced her to me. The very first sight of her caught my attention. She was damn cool, with those pretty looks which are kinda unique to her. She was like a model in those showrooms. I didn't know that I just fell in love with her or may be it was just a liking. My friend din't ask me for a treat but I thanked him. Since then, I felt her closer to me all the times- whenever I was walking, whenever I was biking, whenever I was working, whenever I was doing something or the other and even when I was sleeping.
She sings well - one of the things I liked the most about her and believe me, whenever I was tensed or caught up in some work, her voice was like a gentle breeze. I can never be angry at her, such is the rapport we shared. It doesn't matter who initiates the talk but most of those conversations involving both of us and may be few more of our friends were never boring ones. Everything was going fine when fate thought otherwise and I still remember that black day - 27th of september,2006 - the day my dear moto C650 bid a silent farewell to me forever and ever and ever.

I just did it again!!!

Date: 15-05-2005
Location: Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bangalore
So what’s the big deal??
It was the first time I participated in an international marathon, until which I was only reading about such events in news papers or watching on television. It wasn’t something like ‘my dream come true’ but something that I always wanted to try at least once in my lifetime.
The name "marathon" comes from the legend of Pheidippides, a Greek soldier who, according to legend, was sent from the town of Marathon to Athens to announce that the Persians had been miraculously defeated in the Battle of Marathon. It is said that he ran the entire distance without stopping, but moments after proclaiming his message to the city, he collapsed dead. The International Olympic Committee estimated the actual distance from the battlefield of Marathon to Athens as about 34.5 km (21.4 miles) and started organizing this event thereafter. A fixed distance of 42.195 km was adopted in 1921 by the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) as the official marathon distance.
My friend and I decided that 7km of celebration run would be less; 42km of full marathon would be too much and finally settled for 21km of half marathon. Even that 21km of running was a daunting task, considering the fact that I never ran continuously for 1km by then. We thought, “Lets give a try; we’ll run as much as we can”. After 3 hrs and 4min of jogging and walking we finished the race successfully.
Date: 17-06-2006 (today)
Location: Sree Kanteerava Stadium again
2-3 months back, I was thinking of running the full marathon, a run which requires at least a month of intensive training. Having loads of work at office, it was hard to train for a month and settled again for half marathon. Trained for 5km on the 1st day, 6km on the 2nd day, 16km on the 3rd day and that’s all; only 3 days of training before running 21km on the 4th and final day. It was great to see old men and women aged 50 and above participate in the run. One would really be inspired by such moments, so did I.
It’s the test of one’s mental strength, the endurance and the physical fitness. You run a marathon and I bet the ‘can do’ attitude develops a great deal in you. That’s what I liked the most about a marathon. It keeps your motivation levels up, develops patience and perseverance. You are in the middle of the run, feeling exhausted, your legs are tired and complain to your brain that “sorry buddy I can’t take it anymore”. It’s your mental strength that comes into picture at this stage, which drives your legs to keep running, to try improving your previous timing and to finish ultimately.
Moreover, it’s a run for multiple causes (welfare of girl child & street children, AIDS, support for aged citizens and so on), a fund raising event, where people raise money through pledges and part of the entry fee goes to some charitable trusts. This year’s Bangalore Marathon was well organized compared to the last year’s. I bettered my timing by 19 min and finished the race in 2 hrs and 46 min and would’ve done even better had I practiced for more than a week. This post-run soreness is not letting me walk or sleep properly. But thanks to it, otherwise I would’ve been lazy to come up with this blog.
One day, I’ll definitely run the full marathon, with more of training and proper planning. Until then, see yaa…happy reading.

Thanks to the *grin monster* aka 'Head Daku' for pushing me up to be a reporter for her 'The Daku Times'. Hehehey, I'm a reporter now, stay tuned for my articles :-). Its 2.15am in the morning and I'm still thinking of what to write, only to realize how difficult the job of impressive writing is. Have I done a good job???
